ArkivDigital continues to grow!

Annual report

ArkivDigital recently published the annual company report which shows that 2016 was another great year.

Net sales increased by 18 percent to nearly 29 million Swedish kronor. Profits were nearly 5.9 million Swedish kronor, an improvement of nearly 3 million compared with the previous year. More than 8 million new images were added to the online database, this is a record high for the company, as well more than 50 million name register entries. The number of subscribers is nearly 26,000.

These strong financial numbers make it possible for the company to enter new ventures. In 2016, the company acquired several million aerial photos primarily of houses and farm from all over Sweden, most taken from the 1950’s to the beginning of the 2000’s.

Mikael Karlsson, Managing Director of ArkivDigital, writes in the annual report, “It is a wonderful feeling and means so much to make these fascinating photo collections available to many today and at the same preserve them for future generations. I am convinced our customers will share the same feelings. But the material will take some time to digitize so it will take some time before all the images are available in a high-quality format in our online service.”

The company is focused on further improving ArkivDigital, Mikael Karlsson presented a summary of the priorities:

  • Continue digitizing archival documents.
  • Digitizing other types of records, such as older photographs.
  • More name registers, example increase the Population of Sweden 1880-1920 to include 1860 to 1930.
  • Indexes that make searches in the documents easier.
  • Instructions and help texts within the software to facilitate the research, especially for beginners.
  • Smoother payment methods.
  • Increased interaction between ArkivDigital and researchers but also directly between researchers.

The annual shareholders’ meeting will be held on the 19th of May at the company’s headquarters in Lyrestad.

61 Million Register Posts

A few weeks ago ArkivDigital reached a major milestone: 60 million newly photographed images in our online digital archive, a result of nearly 10 years of photographing. A relatively new feature for ArkivDigital is searchable name registers. Today, the number of register posts already exceeds the number of photographed images. Today, we have nearly 61 million searchable register posts divided among the following three registers:

  • Population of Sweden 1880-1920, 46.5 million posts (Sweden’s largest searchable name register!)
  • Population of Sweden 1950, 7 million posts
  • Population of Sweden 1960, 7.5 million posts

The Population of Sweden 1950 is available for all subscribers. The Population of Swedish 1880-1920 and the Population of Sweden 1960 are available to subscribers who have an All-in-one subscription. You can find more information about these registers in the following previous blog entries:

These three registers are only a beginning; more will be added in the future.

On Thursday, May 19th, ArkivDigital’s annual shareholders’ meeting was held at the company headquarters in Lyrestad, Sweden. The number of shareholders who attended the meeting represented nearly 70% of the outstanding shares.

All board members, Jan Aronson (Chairman of the Board), Paul Johansson and Häkan Skogsjö were reelected. Jonas Backlund was appointed as a substitute board member.

All the financial numbers for 2015 pointed in the right direction. Net sales increased by 16 percent to nearly 24 million Swedish kronor. Profits were nearly 2.9 million Swedish kronor, an improvement of 2.4 million compared with the previous year. The number of subscribers increased 5 percent to nearly 26,000.

Mikael Karlsson, managing director of ArkivDigital, highlighted the most recent developments at the board meeting. The All-in-one subscription, launched in early April, has already become very popular and the number of subscribers is nearly 7,000. New registers of various types will be added to the All-in-one subscription in the future.

Along with index development, the company has continued to focus on photographing new records at a record pace. New times ahead for ArkivDigital – Report from Annual Shareholder’s Meeting

ArkivDigital annual shareholders meeting“Headed toward new times” is the title of Archives Digital’s annual report for 2014.  And ArkivDigital’s Chief Executive Officer, Mikael Karlsson, focused on the new as he presented the forthcoming new product features at the Annual Shareholder’s meeting on May 19th in Lyrestad, Sweden.

A new software program replacing the current “ArkivDigital online” will be launched at Genealogy Days (Släktforskardagarna) in August.   The new program is built using modern technology with a user interface created in the same manner as a web page and displayed with a specially built web browser. A new function will be automatic software upgrades allowing improved versions to be released often without causing user inconveniences.

Another new feature that will be introduced is the capability to manage registers. At Genealogy Days, a searchable name register for Sweden’s entire population for 1950 will be released. Later, a name searchable register for 1960 will be released. The sources for these registers are the tax/population registers (mantal) for 1951 and 1961.  Within a year, there will be a searchable name register for all the household/congregation books for the years 1880-1920 (about).

According to Mikael Karlsson, “These new features will be powerful help tools for all researchers”.

The new program software is a rebuilding of the product. Many new functions are planned for the future such as: better help texts, powerful search possibilities and flexible payment methods, to take a few examples.

Concerning economic development during 2014, there were no unwelcome surprises. Net sales increased by 16 percent to nearly 20 million kronor. The number of subscribers increased 13 percent to nearly 25,000 and the image database grew so that it now includes more than 100 million pages of historical source material. The year’s results were 141,770 kroner (678,511 kroner 2013). The relatively modest profit is explained by the large investments the company is making, among others, personnel costs increased nearly 3 million kronor between 2013 and 2014.

The entire board was reelected which includes Jan Aronson (Chairman), Paul Johansson and Håkan Skogsjö. Folke Brished was appointed as a substitute board member.
