ArkivDigital will participate in the following events in March:  DuPage County Genealogical Society 2017 Conference and a webinar for the Scandinavian Special Interest Group of the Villages Genealogical Society. Also, we want to mention that we still have a few open spaces for the spring ArkivDigital workshop in Lindsborg, Kansas on April 1-2.


DuPage County Genealogical Society 2017 Conference
We will be an exhibitor and Kathy Meade of ArkivDigital will be a speaker at the DuPage County Genealogical Society 2017 Conference on Saturday, March 11th in Naperville, Illinois. Kathy Meade will give two presentations at the conference: “Discover Your Swedish Heritage in Living Color Using ArkivDigital” and “Searching in Older Church Records”.  Click here for more information.

Kathy Meade of ArkivDigital will give a webinar presentation on “Researching your Swedish Heritage using ArkivDigital” to the Scandinavian Special Interest Group of the Villages Genealogical Society in the Villages, Florida on Friday, March 17th.

Swedish Genealogy Workshop Using ArkivDigital
We still have a few openings available for our popular ArkivDigital hands-on workshop. The workshop offers participants two days filled with presentations and hands-on training using ArkivDigital. The 2017 spring workshop will be held the weekend April 1-2 in Lindsborg, Kansas.

Swedish American Genealogy Workshop in Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Historical Society is sponsoring a Swedish American Genealogy workshop on Saturday, November 5th. Kathy Meade of ArkivDigital will be giving four presentations on Swedish genealogy. Exploring your Swedish Roots at the Swedish American Museum in Chicago
The Swedish American Genealogical Society at the Swedish American Museum is sponsoring a research day on Sunday, November 13th. Along with the museum’s volunteers, Kathy Meade of ArkivDigital along with two genealogists from Sweden: Ingrid Nilsson and Elisabeth Thorsell will be available to provide one-on-one assistance for questions about Swedish genealogical research, ArkivDigital and translation assistance. Click here for program and registration information.

ArkivDigital and Swedish Genealogists’ Research Day in Portland, Oregon

Three genealogists from Sweden and Kathy Meade of ArkivDigital led a one-day workshop in Portland, Oregon at Nordia House on Tuesday, September 20. The participants were given presentations about records in ArkivDigital, Swedish emigration and culture, historical maps and other Swedish genealogy topics. In addition, many participants received individual assistance with their personal research.

It was wonderful to meet so many Swedish-Americans in Oregon. Among the many areas where the participants’ Swedish roots originated included Skåne, Halland, Småland, Värmland, Närke, Dalarna and Jämtland.

The SwedGen Tour 2016 continues with stops in Tacoma, Washington on Saturday, September 24 and in Seattle, Washington on Sunday, September 25. There is still time to register for these events.

Hands-On ArkivDigital Workshop in “Little Sweden U.S.A.”

leslyeArkivDigital and the McPherson County Old Mill Museum in Lindsborg, Kansas have a partnership whereby the museum sponsors spring and fall ArkivDigital workshops. The workshop offers participants two days filled with presentations and hands-on training using ArkivDigital. The 2016 fall workshop will be held the weekend October 1-2.

The workshops are a great opportunity to learn how to research your Swedish roots using ArkivDigital.  Shari from Kansas who attended the spring 2016 workshop summed up the weekend experience by saying, “This was a very useful weekend for me. I had access to people I could ask questions for two days straight. It was nice to be able to work on my research and have someone to talk a problem over with.”

Lindsborg, Kansas is known as “Little Sweden U.S.A.” because it was settled by Swedish emigrants in 1869 from Värmland. The town is well known for the Svensk Hyllningsfest, and other celebrations promoting its Swedish heritage. The Svensk Hyllningsfest has been held in October of odd-numbered years since 1941.

One of the local attractions is the McPherson County Old Mill Museum with exhibits in 12 buildings showing the lives of early Kansas settlers. One of the buildings is the Swedish Pavilion from the 1904 World’s Fair. The museum receives many visitors exploring their Swedish ancestry and requests for Swedish research.

Swedish Genealogists Visit Kansas & Colorado

This is a reminder that there will be two wonderful Swedish genealogy research workshops in North America this autumn that you don’t want to miss if you have the opportunity. One will be a weekend workshop in Lindsborg, KS on September 26-27 and the second will be a one-day workshop in Aurora, CO (a suburb of Denver, CO) on Saturday, October 3rd.

At both events, genealogists from Sweden will be giving presentations on Swedish research as well as assisting attendees with their research.

Genealogy Workshop Using ArkivDigital on September 26-27 in Lindsborg, KS “Little Sweden USA” 

Six genealogists from Sweden, Kathy Meade from ArkivDigital and three American Swedish genealogists will present informative sessions on Swedish genealogy.  Enjoy a wide range of lectures by both Swedish and American experts over two days.

Also, hear Michael Peterson who was selected to compete for a grand prize of a Swedish family reunion on the Swedish television show,  “Allt För Sverige” describe his experiences on the show and his trip to Sweden.

Workshop participants will be offered half day sessions in the computer lab to gain hands-on experience using ArkivDigital and to work on their research projects. The speakers will be available to assist the participants.

2015 Swedish Research Day sponsored by the Swedish Genealogical Society of Colorado on Saturday, October 3 in Aurora, CO

Four genealogists from Sweden and Kathy Meade of ArkivDigital will lead a one-day workshop giving lectures on records in ArkivDigital, military records, estate inventories, Swedish historical maps and how to find living relatives in Sweden. This will be a great learning opportunity for both the beginner and the advanced researcher.

The workshops are a great opportunity to learn how to research your Swedish roots using ArkivDigital. One participant from a past workshop, Leslye from Missouri, summed up the weekend experience by saying, “This weekend was wonderful….personally I learn so much quicker when I can be involved with a hands on approach. I was able to accomplish more in two days than in the past 5 years”.
