Additions to the estate inventory register

Last summer, ArkivDigital launched a searchable name register for estate inventories, which we discussed in an earlier blog. Go to the earlier blog.

Now, additional name searchable indexes for a large number of estate inventories from the district and city courts in Värmland, Älvsborg along with Göteborgs och Bohus counties have been recently added.

The estate inventory register already included indexes from Gotland, Gävleborg, Jönköping, Kalmar, Kronoberg, Norrbotten, Stockholm, Uppsala, Västerbotten, Västernorrland and Östergötland counties. However, no county is complete and the amount of searchable index entries for each county varies. You can find out what district and city courts and years, the estate inventory register covers by going to this link: https://www.arkivdigital.se/online/register/bouppteckningar. More indexes will be added to the register in the future.

In order to access the estate inventory register, one must have an All-in-one subscription. The register is only available in the web version of our software, which you will find here: https://arkivdigital.net/products/adonline/installation

Swedish National Archives tax records – status update

A few months ago, we published a blog about the types of tax registers that are available in ArkivDigital. Go to previous blog. As stated in the blog post, three copies of the tax registers were created. Unfortunately, the preservation of these different copies is uneven. Often, one will find that only one or two of the copies have been preserved; if one is really unlucky, none of them.

Earlier, we have photographed the two copies which are preserved at the regional archives from the oldest times to 1820. We have also been photographing the third copy which is preserved at the National Archives in Stockholm (Riksarkivet i Stockholm). We are currently doing complementary photographing which means that we are only photographing volumes where no corresponding copies exist in the regional archives.

Below is a status listing the tax registers from the National Archives we have photographed or are in the progress of photographing. The focus has been to photograph the counties with the biggest gaps in the regional archives.

  • Completed counties
    Blekinge
    Göteborgs och Bohus
    Kronoberg
    Malmöhus
    Södermanland
    Västerbotten
    Älvsborg
  • In Progress
    Kopparberg

To find these records in ArkivDigital:

  • Go to New Archive Search
  • Enter Mantalslängder 1642-1820 in the search box
  • You will see a list of the archives (one per county)

New Records in ArkivDigital

During October, many new records have been added to ArkivDigital’s online library. We have added not only Swedish records but records from Kansas in the United States and Åland, Finland.

We mentioned previously about our photographing activities in Kansas in the blog, Swedish American Church Books from Kansas, USA. Only a small portion of the Kansas Swedish American church books are online today. Much more will be added in the near future.

Earlier, we have photographed many documents from Åland in Finland. However, we did not photograph the seamen house records.  Currently, we are photographing and publishing records from Mariehamn’s seamen house and Vårdö’s seamen house. New material is being added regularly. Read about our Åland records here.

As for the Swedish records, our focus has been on the estate inventories. A few weeks ago we published a blog giving a status on the availability of estate inventories in ArkivDigital. Click here to read the blog. Since then, we now have completed adding all the estate inventories for Göteborgs och Bohus, Norrbotten and Västernorrland counties up to and including 1930 and for Stockholm city up to and including 1921.

Military records that have recently been added include more documents from the so-called C-byrån, which covered military intelligence outside of Sweden during the Second World War along with more military pension documents. More information about the pension documents will be published in a future blog.
