The estate inventories are an important source for genealogical research. Here you can find information about the deceased’s heirs and often prove relationships. Also, you will find a list of all the assets and debts of the deceased.

Our index makes it much easier to find the correct estate inventory, something which in ordinary cases can be quite time consuming since the estate inventories are not organized in an exact order. We launched our estate inventory index in 2017 and since then we have added more material on several occasions.

You can search in the estate inventory index by name, the year in which the estate inventory was performed, along with county and parish where the person died. When you search by year, it is important to note that the estate inventory may not have been created in the same year as the person died. It is recommended to include a year range from the year of death and maybe a couple of years in the future.

Search tips: If you use “Advanced search” and fill in a parish name in the “Parish” field, often the index does not refer to a specific parish. If you do not receive any matches when you search with a specific parish name, we suggest that you try searching with Stockholm as the parish name.

The estate inventory index includes searchable name entries for estate inventories for the following counties: Blekinge, Gotland, Gävleborg, Göteborg och Bohus, Halland, Jämtland, Jönköping, Kalmar, Kristianstad, Kronoberg, Malmöhus, Norrbotten, Skaraborg, Stockholm, Södermanland, Uppsala, Värmland, Västerbotten, Västernorrland, Västmanland, Älvsborg, Örebro and Östergötland. We will continue to add entries to the estate inventory index. Watch our blogs, newsletters and other social media for updates.
