We have again updated the index, Birth index, parts of Sweden, and this time we have made it easier for you who search for ancestors born in Halland county for the years 1800-1840.The updating includes approximately 113,211 searchable name entries.

NEW! Birth, marriage and death indexes in Botvidsbygden

Now, we have again updated our indexes of births, marriages and deaths for parts of Sweden. This time we have added searchable name entries for Botkyrka, Grödinge, Huddinge and Salem parishes in Stockholm county. If you have relatives or ancestors who lived in any of these parishes, you can now find the information with a simple search in ArkivDigital’s index.

NEW! Population of Sweden 1860-1947 now 1840-1947!

Now, we have updated the Population of Sweden which is ArkivDigital’s largest searchable name index and the largest in Sweden. The updating is for the years 1840-1859. You can now search all the household/congregation books for the years 1840-1947 for all of Sweden. Yes, 107 years!

The updating consists of 21,287,297 searchable index entries. After this update, there are now more than 133 million index entries in the BiS (Population of Sweden) 1840-1947. A fantastic addition for Swedish genealogists.

The following information is searchable in the BiS(Population of Sweden) 1840-1947 index:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Birth date
  • Birth place (parish/county/country)
  • Location: parish along with place (village, farm, quarter, etc.)
  • Household relation (son, daughter, wife, etc.)

The index includes all persons mentioned in the household/congregation books for the years 1840 -1947. The household/congregation books (after 1895 these records are called congregation books) are the most important source for keeping track of the inhabitants of a parish. The household/congregation books include a range of years from a few years to a few decades.

For all the index search hits there is a link directly to the original source, the household/congregation record. When you click on the link, you see the original record where your ancestor lived and you can quickly verify the information in the index record against the original record. In the original record, you can also find additional information, such as moves to another place within Sweden or emigration information.

Review of ArkivDigital’s Indexes

During the last year, ArkivDigital has added and expanded many indexes making it easier for the Swedish researcher. These indexes include name searchable indexes such the Population of Sweden 1860-1947 which is a name searchable index of all the household/congregation records for all of Sweden for the years 1860 -1947. This index includes also the Rotemansarkivet for persons living in Stockholm for the years 1878-1926.

We have made a new updating of our index, Deaths, parts of Sweden! This time the update includes 184,294 name searchable entries for persons who died in different Stockholm parishes.

New: Name Index for the House of Nobility’s Portrait Collection

There is now a name searchable index of the House of Nobility’s (Riddarhusets) portrait collection. The register makes it much easier to find photographs for persons belonging to the nobility.

The House of Nobility’s portrait collection is from the 1800’s and 1900’s and is kept at the House of Nobility in Stockholm. ArkivDigital has digitized these photos and they have been available in ArkivDigital’s online archive for some time. The portrait collection includes about 13,000 photos from various noble families.

To search the House of Nobility’s Portrait Collection:

  • Log in at app.arkivdigital.se
  • Select Index search

Enter the first letters of the person’s surname. For example, if you type in Sil, all the names beginning with those letters will appear in a list. Select the surname for the photo you wish to view and click the search button

Click on the blue button, Open image, so you can begin to page through the photographs for the selected family. Do not forget to look at the back side of the image where you can find the name and other information about the person or persons.

ArkivDigital has entered into a partnership with the genealogy society, Föreningen Släktdata.

The partnership will allow ArkivDigital to have access to approximately 1.6 million index entries which will be searchable in ArkivDigital. These index entries include births, marriages, and deaths primarily from the western parts of Sweden. The register from Föreningen Släktdata has been created by genealogists from various parts of Sweden and is available on the Föreningen Släktdata website.

The new index entries will make it easier for ArkivDigital’s customers to find even more ancestors and relatives with the help of a simple search. You will be able to search by name, year, place and other criteria. Once you find the person you are looking for, you can easily click a link to access the original record to verify the information. Work on linking the index entries with the church books will begin next year and these new indexes will be available to ArkivDigital customers sometime in the coming year.

ArkivDigital’s goal is to publish more name indexes, both those that the company has created on its own and those that genealogy associations around Sweden have created over the years.

Birth index, Parts of Sweden

Today, we will give an update as to what is available in our index, Birth index, parts of Sweden. This index is a name searchable index for birth records with a partial transcription and a direct link to the original record. The goal is to index all the birth records for Sweden but this will take some time. Below is a summary of the birth records that have been indexed to date.

Recently we have added birth indexes for the years 1800-1840 for the following counties:
