Review of ArkivDigital’s Searchable Name Indexes

During the last years, ArkivDigital has added and expanded many searchable name indexes for the church books,estate inventories, censuses, passenger ship manifests and other collections making it easier for the Swedish researcher. These indexes include name searchable indexes such the Population of Sweden 1820-1947 which is a name searchable index of all the household/congregation records for all of Sweden for the years 1820 -1947. This index includes also the Rotemansarkivet for persons living in Stockholm for the years 1878-1926.

You can find the indexes by:

  • Go to the application – app.arkivdigital.se
  • Select Index search
  • Under index source click on the down arrow and a drop-down menu will show you a list of indexes

More Images of Farms in ArkivDigital

In previous blogs, we have written about the volumes of Svenska Gods och Gårdar available in ArkivDigital’s online archive. (Click here for blog published on July 20th and click here for blog published on November 18, 2019.). There are more than 50 volumes giving descriptions and pictures of farms throughout Sweden.

Besides the more than 50 volumes of Svenska Gods och Gårdar we have other archival collections which also include descriptions of estates and farms within Sweden as well as written texts describing the region and parish. In some cases, you will find written histories of the area.

New: Name Index for the House of Nobility’s Portrait Collection

There is now a name searchable index of the House of Nobility’s (Riddarhusets) portrait collection. The register makes it much easier to find photographs for persons belonging to the nobility.

The House of Nobility’s portrait collection is from the 1800’s and 1900’s and is kept at the House of Nobility in Stockholm. ArkivDigital has digitized these photos and they have been available in ArkivDigital’s online archive for some time. The portrait collection includes about 13,000 photos from various noble families.

To search the House of Nobility’s Portrait Collection:

  • Log in at app.arkivdigital.se
  • Select Index search
  • Select, Riddarhuset, collection of portraits under index source

Enter the first letters of the person’s surname. For example, if you type in Sil, all the names beginning with those letters will appear in a list. Select the surname for the photo you wish to view and click the search button

Click on the blue button, Open image, so you can begin to page through the photographs for the selected family. Do not forget to look at the back side of the image where you can find the name and other information about the person or persons.
