This update contains a total of 126,944 new searchable index entries. After the update, the entire estate index contains a total of 2,366,515 entries.

The estate inventories are an important source for genealogical research. Here you can find information about the deceased’s heirs and often prove relationships. Also, you will find a list of all the assets and debts of the deceased.

Our index makes it much easier to find the correct estate inventory, something which in ordinary cases can be quite time consuming since the estate inventories are not organized in an exact order. We launched our estate inventory in 2017 and since then we have added more material on several occasions.

You can search in the estate inventory index by name, the year in which the estate inventory was performed, along with county and parish where the person died. When you search by year, it is important to note that the estate inventory may not have been created in the same year as the person died. It is recommended to include a year range from the year of death and maybe a couple of years in the future.

The estate inventory index includes searchable name entries for estate inventories for the following counties: Blekinge, Gotland, Gävleborg, Göteborg och Bohus, Halland, Jämtland, Jönköping, Kalmar, Kristianstad, Kronoberg, Malmöhus, Norrbotten, Skaraborg, Stockholm, Södermanland, Uppsala, Värmland, Västerbotten, Västernorrland, Västmanland, Älvsborg and Östergötland. We will continue to add entries to the estate inventory index. Watch our blogs, newsletters and other social media for updates.

Obituaries and Genealogies in Swedish American Record Collections

We have Swedish American church books in ArkivDigital for several states in the United States primarily in the Midwest. One interesting collection is the Trade Lake Swedish Mission Church in Trade Lake in Burnett county, Wisconsin. Among the types of records, you will find in this archive include the typical church books collections such as congregation books, death records, attachments to migration records and anniversary booklets.

But there are also newspaper clippings of obituaries and genealogies for persons who lived in Trade Lake or the nearby area. Many of these are for emigrants or families of emigrants from Sweden.

The obituary collection is titled dödsrunor in the volume list and the death notices are in alphabetical order. Below is the volume list showing these volumes. You can hover over the ‘i” to see the first letters of the names ncluded in the volume.

Found missing church documents for Eker parish

Many of us genealogists have looked for information in the church books and have not been successful in finding the exact material we are searching. This can be due to a variety of reasons: often because the original documents have been destroyed but sometimes the documents may simply be in the wrong place and therefore not available in the archive.

A while back, a private individual found these types of documents and gave it to us at ArkivDigital. We have now scanned the documents so that it can be a benefit for all of our customers. Now that we have finished the scanning, we will give these documents to the Swedish National Archives where they will be stored.

Via Handelsaffär (A General Store) in Hackvad

ArkivDigital is much more than just church books. We have many types of records that can help you gain a better understanding of how your ancestor lived.  One interesting source is an accounts book for the general store (Via Handelsaffär) in Hackvad in Örebro county. In our online library, you will find an account book for the years 1882-1886. Karl Johan Nilsson, the shopkeeper of Via Handelsaffär, recorded the names of all who shopped at the store listing the items purchased and the amounts paid.  So, if you happen to have ancestors who lived near Hackvad at this time; you may have ancestors who shopped in this store.
