ArkivDigital continues to grow!

Annual report

ArkivDigital recently published the annual company report which shows that 2016 was another great year.

Net sales increased by 18 percent to nearly 29 million Swedish kronor. Profits were nearly 5.9 million Swedish kronor, an improvement of nearly 3 million compared with the previous year. More than 8 million new images were added to the online database, this is a record high for the company, as well more than 50 million name register entries. The number of subscribers is nearly 26,000.

These strong financial numbers make it possible for the company to enter new ventures. In 2016, the company acquired several million aerial photos primarily of houses and farm from all over Sweden, most taken from the 1950’s to the beginning of the 2000’s.

Mikael Karlsson, Managing Director of ArkivDigital, writes in the annual report, “It is a wonderful feeling and means so much to make these fascinating photo collections available to many today and at the same preserve them for future generations. I am convinced our customers will share the same feelings. But the material will take some time to digitize so it will take some time before all the images are available in a high-quality format in our online service.”

The company is focused on further improving ArkivDigital, Mikael Karlsson presented a summary of the priorities:

  • Continue digitizing archival documents.
  • Digitizing other types of records, such as older photographs.
  • More name registers, example increase the Population of Sweden 1880-1920 to include 1860 to 1930.
  • Indexes that make searches in the documents easier.
  • Instructions and help texts within the software to facilitate the research, especially for beginners.
  • Smoother payment methods.
  • Increased interaction between ArkivDigital and researchers but also directly between researchers.

The annual shareholders’ meeting will be held on the 19th of May at the company’s headquarters in Lyrestad.

aerobilder-1

ArkivDigital has acquired several million aerial photos from Svenska Aero-Bilder AB. These will now be digitized and added to ArkivDigital’s online archive. These images will complement the church books, estate inventories, military documents, court books and other archival records that currently exist in ArkivDigital.

“Our goal is to continually add new material and create new services for our customers to help them in their research. These images will complement other records in our archives such as the images of the church records.

Through this acquisition, we will have millions of aerial photographs of farms, cottages, villas, petrol stations and much more from the 1950’s to the present day from all over Sweden,”  said the company’s CEO, Mikael Karlsson.

“There is a huge enthusiasm surrounding old pictures. Many people are interested in their past and these images have become a cultural treasure. Several of these houses have been photographed as many as five times over ten-year cycles.

We are extremely pleased  that all these images will now be digitized and preserved for future generations who will have the opportunity to  access these unique photographs via the internet,” said Pereric Öberg, president and owner of Svenska Aero-Bilder AB.

On Thursday, May 19th, ArkivDigital’s annual shareholders’ meeting was held at the company headquarters in Lyrestad, Sweden. The number of shareholders who attended the meeting represented nearly 70% of the outstanding shares.

All board members, Jan Aronson (Chairman of the Board), Paul Johansson and Häkan Skogsjö were reelected. Jonas Backlund was appointed as a substitute board member.

All the financial numbers for 2015 pointed in the right direction. Net sales increased by 16 percent to nearly 24 million Swedish kronor. Good News: Soon more modern church books!

Pressrelease-moderna-kyrkböcker-jan-2016

ArkivDigital will soon begin to photograph the modern church books up to the time of the law of privacy which prohibits some church books younger than 70 years from being published online (currently 1945). This has become possible thanks to a change in a previous decision made by the Swedish National Archives which prohibited ArkivDigital from photographing some church books after 1935.

“We are extremely pleased with this decision,” said Mikael Karlsson, Managing Director of ArkivDigital. “We will immediately redirect our photographing resources, so that we can make the modern church books available to our customers as soon as possible.”

We will first focus on photographing the congregation books, moving in and out registers along with the birth, marriage and death books primarily from the 1930’s and 1940’s.

ArkivDigital’s employees celebrate success in Lyrestad!

FestArkivDigital’s personnel outside the corporate headquarters in Lyrestad, Sweden.

This year ArkivDigital celebrated 10 years as a company. Naturally, we wanted to celebrate this event with all our employees!

Yesterday, Thursday, December 3rd, all our employees were invited to a meeting at our company headquarters in Lyrestad closing with a julbord (Christmas table) and festivities at the beautiful Norrqvarn Hotel and Conference Center next to the Göta Canal.

It was an extremely enjoyable gathering for all!

There was much mingling in the company headquarters. Colleagues who met for the first time got to know each other and there were many happy reunions between employees who work in different locations who seldom have the opportunity to meet. In the afternoon, Managing Director, Mikael Karlsson, and Chairman of the Board, Jan Aronson, presented to the group a summary of the past 10 years and the exciting plans for the company’s future. Then all proceeded to Norrqvarn for the evening festivities.

The elegantly prepared julbord included pickled herring, potatoes, Swedish meatballs, lutefisk and many other dishes that are associated with a traditional julbord. There was much eating, drinking and lots of laughter around the tables until the wee hours.

We wish to thank all our employees for a very special day and evening!
