We are continuing our open house in English via Zoom today and Saturday We will be giving two presentations each day at 12 PM CST and 2 PM CST. Below are the times and titles of each presentation. The presentation, Introduction to ArkivDigital” will be repeated each day.

ROOTSTECH CONNECT – FEBRUARY 25-27

This year RootsTech Connect, the largest genealogy conference in the world, will be virtual and free. The event will actually begin on Wednesday, February 24th with a preview of the Expo Hall starting at 7 PM Eastern Standard Time and lasting until 11 PM. At 11 PM Eastern Standard time, the first main stage presentation will be live streamed and the event will continue through Saturday, February 27th.

 

There are hundreds of classes to view and these will also be available for free viewing for up to a year after the conference.

We at ArkivDigital are excited to be participating in this event as an exhibitor and both Kathy Meade and Niklas Hertzman of ArkivDigital will be speakers. Many new searchable marriages in Skåne

Do you have ancestors from Skåne? It is now considerably easier to discover when and where your ancestors were married. We have updated our marriage index with 153,743 searchable posts for marriages in Skåne.

The information that we have added includes marriages from the earliest times up until 1799 for all the preserved birth records for parishes within Skåne.

During the last weeks, we have published marriage indexes for the years 1800-1840 for Kristianstad and Malmöhus counties. So, you can now search by name for marriages for all of Skåne from earliest times to 1840.

Search for Passenger Ship Manifests

Today, we wish to remind you that you can find passenger ship manifests for persons leaving from Swedish ports in ArkivDigital’s online archive and you can search by name. ArkivDigital has manifests from the following ports: Göteborg (Gothenburg), Malmö, Helsingborg and Stockholm. You can search by name for these records by doing the following:

  1. Go to Index search.
  2. Select emigrants under Index Source.
  3. You can search using a simple search or advanced search.

You can search for the following information:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Birth date or calculated birth year
  • Departure date
  • Departure port
  • Vessel or name of the ship

In the above image, we see the index record and original manifest for P. O. Westermark. The index record details the departure date, departure age, departure port and the name of the ship. It is always important to review the original record for possible additional information. In this case, we see that his place of residence was the parish of Gamleby and his destination is noted as Du Bois, Pennsylvania. The destination place can be helpful in locating the person in North America.
