ArkivDigital’s Family Tree’s Features

About eight months ago, we launched ArkivDigital’s family tree where you can save personal information that you find when you search in our indexes and page through the church books and other documents that are in ArkivDigital.

You can search in the index directly from the family tree and even add sources to the tree with a simple mouse click. To have the sources and family tree integrated in the same service makes it easier for you to organize your information and you can quickly check your sources by clicking on a link.

During the past eight months, we have added several new features to the tree. We have worked to improve the user experience for you who build your tree with us. Here we summarize some of the functions and new features that are in the tree.

Create 10 different family trees

You can create up to 10 different family trees with ArkivDigital. This is very handy if you wish to make a tree for your ancestors and a separate one for your spouse’s ancestors. If you do genealogy research for people other than yourself, you may also wish to create several different family trees to keep the different families apart.

Family Tree’s map function

With the map function, you can get a geographical view over where in Sweden your family lived. The map view shows individual’s life events placed on a map. If necessary, you can move the person to a more precise location on the map, for example to the farm where he / she lived at birth or death. A new function is that you can now also move several events / persons with one move instead of one at a time.

Click here to read more about the map function.

Invite others to look at your tree

You can invite up to 25 persons to view your tree. This makes it easy to show your genealogy research to your family and friends. It is free for those you invite to view the tree; they only need to create a free account with ArkivDigital in order to get access to the tree. The invited persons can only view your tree; they cannot make any changes.

Click here to read more on inviting persons to view your tree.

Search for persons in the tree

When you have many people in the tree, it is nice to be able to search for the person you are looking for. You do this easily in the search box at the top left. Here you can choose whether you want to search for the person’s name or if you want to search for a place/ parish (new!). The search result list shows blood drop symbols for the straight ancestors and descendants.

Printing

If you wish to print your family tree, you can do it as follows:

  • You can print a pedigree view or save as a JPEG image.
  • The fan view can be printed out or saved as a JPEG image.
  • The family view can be printed as shown on the screen.
  • The map view can be printed out or saved as a JPEG file.

If you have a family tree but no ongoing subscription, you can still view your family tree, but you cannot add, edit, or delete anything in the family tree. Without an ongoing subscription, you can choose to delete the entire family tree or export the information in the tree as a GEDCOM file.

At the end of the volume, Korsbaneret, 1929, you will find an index or register for the volumes for the first fifty years, 1880-1929. There are indexes for various categories such as general news , obituaries of ministers and their spouses, illustrations or photos of churches and portraits of individuals.

Let’s look for the obituary for the pastor’s wife, Wilhelmina Lundquist, in Beaver, Illinois. By going to the volume, Korsbaneret, 1929, you will find the beginning of the registers or indexes on page 311. If we page forward to page 330, we will see the index for levnadsteckningar or biographies In the register. Then look for Lundquist, Wilhelmina and you will see next to her name the notations 21 and 275 which means you will find information about her in the volume for the year 1921 on page 275.
