Household record transcripts in Hedemora parish

Within ArkivDigital we have more than 2,800 parish/congregation archives in Sweden. Whenever one looks at a parish archive volume list, one usually sees volumes for household/congregation, moving, birth, marriage, death records followed by other types of record collections. The volume list will vary by parish and so it is important to review the entire volume list before you begin researching within that parish.

Many times, especially in the large cities one will find photographed name registers for some of the church books. These name registers can save you much time in your research. In Hedemora parish in Kopparberg county, one will find a gem: transcripts for early communion and household records. These transcripts were done by the experienced Hedemora researcher Siv Thorsell (1937-2016). These transcripts help one save time in deciphering the old handwriting.

To find the transcriptions for household records in Hedemora parish, do the following:

  • Access app.arkivdigital.se
  • Select Archive search.
  • Enter Hedemora in the box under Archive holder.
  • Click the search button.
  • Scroll down and search for the Transcript volumes in the volume list or use the filter function and look for Transcript.

Below are images from a household book and the corresponding transcription record. Most of the time only the head of household and family members’ names are transcribed and not the names of the farm hands or housemaids.

Again, always review the volume list for each parish you are researching and check to see if there are any tools such as name registers or even transcriptions to help you with your research.

RootsTech 2020 – Great Event!

IMG_0419

RootsTech held in Salt Lake City, Utah, is the largest family history event in the world. This year RootsTech celebrated its 10-year anniversary on February 27-29. There were over 14,000 paid registrants from all 50 U.S. states and many countries around the world. There were more than 300 presentations on a wide variety of genealogy topics that attendees could select from. The exhibit hall was huge with more than 150 vendors displaying their products and services.

Again, this year, ArkivDigital was an exhibitor. Kathy Meade, ArkivDigital’s North American representative gave a lecture, “Getting to know ArkivDigital for Swedish Research” on Thursday and also a second presentation in the demo theater in the vendor hall on Friday.

Each day, there were a stream of visitors stopping by our booth requesting to learn more about our services and Swedish genealogy. Many sought assistance in discovering where in Sweden their ancestor came from, translation help on records as well as questions on how to search within ArkivDigital.

We received so many positive comments about our index BiS (Population of Sweden) 1840 -1947, the name searchable index of household/congregation records between 1840 and 1947,  and how easy it is to search and find ancestors with a couple of clicks. Click here to read more about this index.

We wish to thank all our customers who stopped by the booth to say hello and told us how appreciative they are of ArkivDigital and how they love the new features within ArkivDigital.

RootsTech 2021 will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah. on February 3-6, 2021.
